Why I Make Sped-Up Painting Videos

I’ve been making “sped-up painting” videos for a few years.

These videos usually have my music playing underneath.

They seem to be my most popular “art” videos, especially on the alternative platforms.

Few people have time to sit through a 30 or 60 minute video with me rambling about process and drinking kefir.

But me slathering on paint for 3 or 4 minutes? No problem!

Sped-up paintings are fun and quick to make. I just download my “live” file from Streamyard, load it into Adobe Premiere Elements, mute my talking, add some music, increase the speed about 400% to 600%. and before long I’m rendering and scheduling.

Art update:

Like all weeks, this past week has been extremely busy with personal matters. I do have some completed art to add to the gallery soon.

Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and Odysee all added followers and subscribers.

I had some art disasters this week, and those are always distressing.

Music update:

I should have more new music scheduled for release in late January and early February, including some Christmas-style music. Why do I release Christmas music in February? Because then I have all year to get things ready for when that music starts doing well in November!

I did schedule a co-release by Mark Rushton + Aleodeology for January 23rd (“Forgetting and Forgetting”). The two artists are both “me”. Isn’t that funny? I haven’t tried that before. It’s an experiment…

More song pitching. More promotion work. A lot of things have to be manually restarted after January 1st. I have calendar reminders so I don’t forget.

Playlists? I make them daily.

Hi, I'm Mark Rushton, a professional recording artist and fine artist who has managed to hang on to creativity.

As a fine artist / painter, I make original abstract landscapes on paper and canvas, limited edition prints, and functional merchandise.

As a recording artist, I've released more than 2500 music and sounds on streaming services since the early 2000s under many different names, including my own. I largely create ambient, beat-driven electronica, and avant-garde music and soundscapes, as well as field recordings and sound effects.
