Mark Rushton’s Perseverance in the Arts is a weekly email on Substack where I talk about my ongoing work as a recording artist and visual artist.
This week’s topics:
I Can’t See You, But I Know You’re Here by Peter Falk
Experiencing Art by Fairfield Porter
Phillip Glass as a Plumber by Ted Gioia
Calling Yourself an Artist by Carmen Villain
Don’t Think About Making Art by Andy Warhol
It Doesn’t Do Anything Sitting on a Shelf by Brian Eno

I’ve amassed a bunch of images of quotes about being in the arts that I like. They never get old.
This week, I’m working on a lot of things behind the scenes: remastering music, new artwork, cleaning up the database of my titles, and attempting to upgrade some things in my studio space. It all takes time and this week had a lot of “incomplete”.
I’m a recording artist, but I’m also a business systems analyst in the day job. I really don’t have a good “requirements” or “functional specification” or “knowledge transfer” document for my work as a recording artist. What if I get hit by a bus? I need to work on that.
