Mark Rushton’s Interpolation in the Arts is a weekly email on Substack where I talk about my ongoing work as a recording artist and visual artist.
This email is brought to you by the Mark Rushton Gallery, for printed and original artworks. License my music, sound fx, and illustrations at Pond 5 for your creative project. I’m on Bandcamp and all the usual streaming services.

Recent Music
A few days ago, I listened to some collaborations I’m working on with another recording artist. I sent him some files and he played on them.
It was overwhelming to me to hear this. Really beautiful work.
You’ll hear these recordings eventually. It’s been a while since I’ve worked with anybody else. He had additional ideas for recordings in the future, and I’m all for it.
I also signed another deal to have 10 recordings going into an exclusive music library. Super thrilled about that.
And another album of recordings got scheduled for release soon. This is percussion + electronics processing. It’s kind of a new genre branch for me. I’ll profile those once they’re out.
Abandoning Facebook
Also this week, I abandoned Facebook.
I’ve been planning to do this for the past 15 years or so and finally got around to it.
The complete enshittification of the FB timeline in the past few months drove me in this direction, although there were other factors.
Mr Z admitting he was paid by the government to censor people who had opinions about numerous matters in the last few years was the final straw. He’s not the only one taking that dirty money.
I think it’s a good idea to get back to Internet 1.0 things like web sites and mailing lists.
Anybody who wants to hear from me can subscribe to this newsletter. Feel free to say hello in the comments. Or we can talk in-person.
Perhaps FB was an addiction, but only a minor one. There is a period of adjustment. I felt the same way after leaving the other dotcom mouse wheels, but I’m OK now.
If you have addictions, or your life is out of balance, change has to be at the individual level, and at the right time.
I think a lot of people are addicted to the “news”, and it makes them angry or depressed - or just captured. Long ago, I gave up seeking that out, and I think it has helped me. Sure, I hear of things, but I try to not pay attention. I’d rather listen to books and music. Move ink around.
Super Furry Animals - Juxtapozed With U
What’s the best Welsh band? Manic Street Preachers or Super Furry Animals?
The correct answer is Badfinger.
One of the comments on YouTube for this says: “This was my ultimate ‘I don't care about all your superimposed injustice, slander and sickly frustrations, because I'll be fine and this has zero relevance to me.’”
That’s a bit of a stumbling comment, but I’ll take it. That’s how I feel about “the news”.
Hard to believe this song is nearly 25 years old:
